Christopher Denton is a Federal Law Enforcement Officer with the United States Forest Service Rocky Mountain Region in Silverthorne, Colorado. Officer Denton investigates and enforces laws related to the National Forest System with a focus on increased use of public lands and urban-interface issues.

Prior to 2021, Officer Denton was a police officer with the Metropolitan Police Department of Washington, DC where he was assigned to the Narcotics and Special Investigations Division, Violence Reduction Unit.

Within Special Investigations, Officer Denton has been assigned to the Gun Recovery Unit as well as the Violence Reduction Unit. Officer Denton is a student of Group Violence Intervention (GVI) strategies throughout the United States and has established a working relationship with project managers and researchers with the National Network of Safe Communities at John Jay in New York City, New York. This informal relationship has granted Officer Denton an important perspective on GVI messaging and group intervention, specifically with Project Longevity in New Haven, Connecticut. Officer Denton took lessons learned from other focused deterrence strategies to help form the mission of the Violence Reduction Unit.

Officer Denton earned a bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Florida and served in the United States Coast Guard as a Maritime Enforcement Specialist prior to joining the Metropolitan Police Department in September 2011. From 2014 to 2017, Officer Denton served as a Special Agent with the Diplomatic Security Service at the Washington Field Office.
