Abstract

Anonymous communication is a right worth protecting, but as with any constitutionally guaranteed privilege, the right to anonymity may be abused. The purpose of this essay is not to describe how to conduct the linguistic analysis of a questioned document, but to propose some guidelines for the proper handling of an anonymous questioned document from the moment police become involved to the closing arguments at trial.
