Abstract

Our fall issue explores a broad array of articles focusing on crime mapping and analysis practice and research. In the opening article, the author discusses the use of Geographic Profiling for Crime Analysis to help in the investigation of serial crimes. The second article talks about applicability of the near-repeat spatio-temporal pattern to crime incidents such as shots fired. Crime in today’s world is not just limited to property or people. Organized retail crime is a kind of crime where the victims are large and small retailers. This type of crime costs the retail industry several billion dollars each year. The article on organized retail crime highlights the use of geospatial analytics to mitigate such crime. The last article is an introduction to a new mobile app, called the Evidence-Based Policing App created by the National Policing Institute, in collaboration with George Mason University and The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) for front line officers to access strategies, tactics and general recommendations for responding to common crime concerns.
