The Police Foundation sends condolences to the U.S. Marshal’s Office and the family of Deputy U.S. Marshal Josie Wells, who was shot and killed while attempting to serve a warrant in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Wells was part of a team attempting to take a man into custody at the Elm Grove Motel in Baton Rouge on March 10, 2015. Shots were exchanged and Deputy Wells was struck. He was transported to a local hospital by another deputy marshal but succumbed to his wounds a short time later. The subject was shot multiple times and died the following day.
Wells, 27, was a four-year veteran of the Marshal’s service. He was part of a law enforcement family – his father, uncle and three brothers are all in law enforcement. He is survived by a wife who is expecting their first child.
