Chief Kevin Carey

Bio

Chief Kevin J. Carey began his career with the Collingswood, New Jersey, Police Department (CPD) as a SLEO I in 2001. He attended the police academy and became a SLEO II in 2004 and was appointed as a full-time police officer of the CPD in 2005. Chief Carey served as a patrol officer in the Patrol Division until 2012, when he was assigned to the Administrative Division. In 2013, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant and was responsible for conducting various administrative functions. In September 2014 he was appointed as chief.

In his time as chief, Chief Carey successfully restructured the CPD to better serve the residents, business owners, and visitors to the borough. In addition, he has proven his dedication and commitment to the community by forming a strong bond with the community, the Collingswood Public School District, businesses, and religious leaders. These seemingly small accomplishments help facilitate his theory of community engagement, while improving public safety and quality of life in Collingswood.

Chief Carey is an active member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP) and the Camden County Association of Chiefs of Police (CCACOP). He has taken a leadership role on the executive boards of both the CCACOP and NJSACOP, where he has been tasked with serving on various committees to promote and enhance professionalism, leadership, collaboration, and the highest ethical standards in law enforcement in Camden County and New Jersey. He was named as a 40 Under 40 Award recipient by the IACP and was awarded Accredited Chief Executive Certificate from the NJSACOP. He is also a member of the Camden County College Police Academy Advisory Board.

Chief Carey is a lifelong resident of Collingswood and graduated from Collingswood High School in 2000. He went on to attain a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rowan University and a Master of Public Administration Degree from Villanova University. He is married to his wife Katie, and they have 2 beautiful children together.
