The National Policing Institute (NPI), in recognition of the sacrifices of law enforcement officers, participated in Police Weekend 2021. As an extension of National Police Week, Police Weekend was established by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial and Museum to offer the same honor, remembrance, and peer support.
During Police Weekend 2021, NPI attended the 33rd Annual Candlelight Vigil on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., to honor the hundreds of law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty during 2019 and 2021. The ceremony formally dedicated the names of 701 law enforcement officers—including 434 who died in 2019 and 2020, and 267 prior-year fatalities—to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C., where their names will be engraved and memorialized. NPI President Jim Burch was among those who read aloud the names of the fallen officers.
“As a member of the Memorial’s Board of Directors, the National Policing Institute had the distinct honor of participating in the Candlelight Vigil and reading the names of officers from the State of Texas who made the ultimate sacrifice,” said NPI President Jim Burch. “We honor and we remember them all and we recommit ourselves to doing all we can to keep officers safe and to promote their wellbeing.”
NPI staff members also participated in the Run for the Badge 5K to honor fallen officers.
