Bio

Laura Wyckoff, Ph.D., is the Senior Director of Knowledge, Learning, and Translation at the National Policing Institute.  In this position she identifies, harvests, and translates research into practical information for stakeholders, working to improve the field through targeted technical assistance and training.

Prior to this role, Dr. Wyckoff was the Chief of Staff at the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) where she worked closely with all PERF staff, leading key projects and identifying and disseminating best practices in policing. Dr. Wyckoff also served as a Senior Performance Management Analyst at the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA). In this position, she oversaw all aspects of BJA’s Planning, Performance, and Impact (PPI) Team. The PPI team was responsible for assisting with program development, developing performance measures, analyzing performance data, and producing performance reports and products for use by internal and external BJA audiences. In addition to these responsibilities, Dr. Wyckoff provided her expertise in program implementation and the application of evidence-based practices to enhance BJA’s programs.

Prior to joining BJA, Dr. Wyckoff served as a Senior Faculty Researcher at the University of Maryland and as a Science Advisor to the Police Foundation. In these roles, Dr. Wyckoff focused on performing training, technical assistance, action-research, process evaluations, and outcome evaluations within policing, juvenile justice, and prosecution.

Dr. Wyckoff specializes in the application of evidence-based practices across the field of criminal justice, crime analysis, crime-at-place, research methods, and program measurement. Dr. Wyckoff completed her Ph.D. at the University of Maryland at College Park, performing research in the realms of police practice and place-based criminology.
